There’s a huge number of factors that determine an individual’s ability to lose weight. These include physiological differences as well as environmental factors such as work life and family commitments.
Despite this, weight loss is still possible for everyone. The secret is blocking out the noise that treats you like everyone else, and start building the individual approach that works for you.
the usual approach
It’s rare I meet a weight loss client who hasn’t already tried numerous attempts to lose weight. These usually include very low calorie diets, overly restrictive ‘named diets’ such as Keto or the Juice Diet or some form of ‘slimming club’ with strangely specific weight loss rules that detract significantly from life quality.
The problem
Losing significant weight takes a meaningful amount of time. Thus by definition, the approach you choose has to be sustainable.
Unfortunately in trying to rush or ‘hack’ this process we’re drawn towards more extreme, shiny methods and end up signing up for something we know we can’t maintain.
If you’ve got a great social life and value seeing your friends for a drink, there is zero point signing up to a program that says no alcohol for 3 months.
The solution
Rather than losing 2kg a week for one week then giving up and regaining it all, let’s start talking about losing 0.5-1kg for 12 weeks straight and keeping it off.
Rather than cutting out alcohol, restaurant food and chocolate entirely, let’s start talking about the extent to which it can be accommodated and adjusted to fit your goals.
